Eastern Stars FC are an association football club based in Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea. The club competes in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, the country's top division, and was founded in July 2007. Eastern Stars have never won the league championship, and their best-ever finish is as runners-up in 2010–11. Despite being based in Milne Bay, the club plays its home matches at the 1,500 capacity Bisini Soccer Ground in the capital, Port Moresby.〔(Papua New Guinea 2010–11 ) SoccerKing.co.uk. 8 January 2011. Retrieved 24 December 2011.〕 ==History== Eastern Stars FC were founded in July 2007 following concern from Milne Bay residents that the lack of clubs in the area had led to many local players joining Port Moresby-based teams; the club's name is derived from "the star from the East", a symbol that features on the Milne Bay provincial flag.〔(NSL Club Profile: Eastern Stars FC ) OleOle.com. 16 November 2008. The club struggled in the first half of the season, having a six-game winless streak between November and January, but managed to win their last five games to soar up the table.〔(Papua New Guinea 2009 ) RSSSF. 28 October 2010. Retrieved 25 December 2011.〕 They were edged into fifth place by University Inter FC who had a superior goal difference. Eastern Stars finished as runners-up to PRK Hekari United in the 2010–11 season. This remains their best-ever finish in the league. After qualifying for the semi-finals, Stars came up against Tukoko Unitech and won 3–1, with Solomon Islander Karol Kakate among the scorers. This win put the club in the final against PRK Hekari United, but they lost 4–0. In October 2011, ahead of the 2011–12 season, the club appointed Luis Jaime Gomez as its new head coach. Gomez played professional football for Chilean club Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in the 1960s and 1970s.〔(Eastern Stars get Chilean coach ) Post Courier. 5 October 2011. Retrieved 30 January 2013.〕 Following a mass exodus of players at the end of the 2011–12 campaign, the club appointed former Papua New Guinea national team assistant manager Max Foster as its coach for the new season. Stars faced NC Oro in the league's opening fixture of 2013, and despite fielding an entirely new squad from 2012, Stars defeated their opponents 3–1, thanks to a Patrick Aisa brace and Danny Banaba.〔(National League Kicks-Off 2013 Season ) Papua New Guinea FA. 2 February 2013.
